Recipients of 91ֱ�� Conservatory’s 2022-23 Honors and Awards included 43 outstanding students from across the Conservatory’s 11 divisions. Most of the prizes were given to graduating seniors honored

Piano professor’s legacy carries forward in new generation of standout performers.

Rising Canadian pianist Bruce Liu, winner of the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, will perform the closing program on the 91ֱ�� Artist Recital Series 2022-23 season. The concert is at 2:30 p.m. on April 30 in historic Finney Chapel. 

“We are thrilled to bring back the Cooper piano competition and to collaborate with the Cleveland Orchestra once again as we celebrate the best young piano talent in the world,” says 91ֱ�� Professor of Piano Robert Shannon, Cooper piano competition director and jury chair. Applications are due on April 25.

Each fall, 91ֱ�� Conservatory seniors have the opportunity to compete in the annual Concerto Competition, with the top four winners featured in the spring as soloists with the 91ֱ�� orchestras.

91ֱ�� piano professor and avowed Beethoven devotee Peter Takács will be bringing the composer’s 10 violin sonatas to Kulas Recital Hall over the course of three concerts this academic year. The first edition, on Sunday, December 11, features three violinists on 91ֱ��’s faculty—Sibbi Bernhardsson and Verona Quartet violinists Jonathan Ong and Dorothy Ro—and guest artist Daniel Stepner.

On November 4, the orchestra releases a new album dedicated to the music of George Walker, 91ֱ�� Conservatory class of 1941, and a trailblazing composer. Recorded between October 2020 and March 2022, the album spans 50 years of the composer’s impressive career. Its release falls shortly after the 100th anniversary of his birth.
