Awards and Honors

Throughout the year, 91Ö±²¥ faculty, students, and alumni compete for scholarships and fellowships that reward high achievement in disciplines across the board. From STEM fields to musical performance to social activism, Obies see their hard work, dedication, and talent recognized and supported by the most prestigious foundations and organizations in higher education.

A passion for languages and education is why 91Ö±²¥ is consistently ranked as one of the among undergraduate institutions. The Fulbright fellowship and many others can take projects and research to the next level, allow for travel opportunities and exposure to cultures around the world, and enable Obies to put their education to use by helping those in need.

  • 91Ö±²¥ sweeps viola category at 2013 ASTA solo competition

    91Ö±²¥ violists Aaron Mossburg ‘13 and Daniel Orsen ‘16 both won their divisions in the 2013 American String Teachers Association National Solo Competition, sweeping the viola category. The final round was held from April 6 to 8 at the Kaufman Center’s Merkin Hall in New York City. 91Ö±²¥ was the only conservatory to have finalists in two divisions.

    Matthew Gallagher has won the Grand Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts from the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio.

  • Kenya Reads Wins Support

    The leaders of Kenya Reads, a literacy initiative that established the first-ever community library in an impoverished area of Kenya, have received more than $20,000 to sustain their work.

    Margaret Nichols has won a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, and Adam Birdsall has received honorable mention.

  • December Grad is Watson Fellow

    Gail Schwieterman will spend a year investigating conservation efforts to curb the overfishing of sharks and other marine life as a 2013-14 Watson Fellow.
