Bridget Smith Selected for Fulbright Summer Institute in Scotland

Second-year Bridget Smith will spend three weeks in Scotland this summer on a US-UK Fulbright fellowship.

Second-year Bridget Smith has been accepted as a US-UK Fulbright Summer Institute participant.
Smith, a politics major with an education concentration, will join other students from the United States in attending a three-week academic and cultural program at the , hosted by the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde. Students will be led by faculty from both institutions and senior figures from the private and public sectors. From the perspective of Scotland鈥檚 status as a technological, innovative, and creative country, participants will explore Scotland's culture and history.
Fulbright Summer Institutes cover participants鈥 major costs and provide them with a distinctive support and cultural education program, including comprehensive pre-departure guidance, enrichment opportunities in country, and the chance to be part of the Fulbright alumni network.
At 91直播, Smith is part of the Cole Scholars program, a non-partisan initiative that provides students with classroom instruction and field research opportunities. She serves on Student Senate and is cochair of 91直播 College Democrats.
鈥樷業 was so surprised to receive an acceptance email from the Fulbright Commission,鈥 says Smith, who is from Lawrence, Kansas. 鈥淚 have never traveled to Scotland and am excited to learn about the impact of Scottish art and industry on modern Scottish society. I hope this work will enable me to better understand the relationship between institutes of higher education and public policy, as I hope to work in the field of education policy in the future.鈥欌
