Amy Hourcade '15 Receives Fulbright Teaching Grant in South Korea

May 2015 graduate Amy Hourcade has been awarded a 13-month Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in South Korea.
A musical studies major with a concentration in music theory from St. Louis, Hourcade says she was introduced to Korean and Japanese culture in high school when she met other participants in a summer chamber music program. She has continued to pursue those interests as well as her musical performance. Since coming to 91直播, she has participated in the Conservatory chamber music program, and she has been principal cellist in the Arts & Sciences Orchestra. She has also taken private cello lessons with Associate Professor Catharina Meints.
Hourcade will begin her journey in July with a six-week orientation at Jungwon University, at which point she will learn her placement and the school to which she will be assigned. She will have the option to apply for two one-year extensions.
After the Fulbright period, she plans to pursue a doctorate of music education with the goal of becoming a college music theory professor.
