This sleeveless dress was custom-made by Chloe Deshusses in the Yarn to Garment winter term project. The project teaches participants how to create their own garment design, how to dress and operate a loom, weave the fabric, and sew and fit their garment. Finished garments were displayed in the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts Main Gallery from January 6 through February 7.

For 15 years, Director of Recreation and Club Sports Betsy Bruce has been teaching a winter-term project called Yarn to Garment, a weaving and garment construction class. Over the course of several weeks, participants learn how to create a garment from idea and yarn selection to sewing and fitting the finished piece.
On dressing a loom, Bruce says, "Oh boy, that鈥檚 a process. I think most students don鈥檛 realize how many times they鈥檙e actually going to touch each thread of yarn and how much time it takes.... Then they get to weave, and the smiles on their faces come up."
Completed garments were modeled in a fashion show and put on display in the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts Main Gallery from January 6 through February 7.
