Whether you're staying in Burton Hall or any other residence on campus, opportunities abound to connect virtually with other Obies.

Are you looking for things to do in your dorm room this weekend? A host of virtual events will help you connect and make friends with other Obies, get involved with student organizations, learn about spiritual life at 91直播, and meet with staff who can help with your transition to college and northeast Ohio. For entertainment, enjoy a live jazz concert, a variety show hosted by the Obertones, and readings by 91直播鈥檚 renowned slam poetry group, OSLAM.

11 a.m.鈥擬eet the Staff: Dustin Evatt-Young. Are you struggling with your initial transition to Northeast Ohio? Dustin Evatt-Young, associate director in the Career Development Center, presents 鈥淲hat I鈥檝e Learned Living up North,鈥 which shares what he learned after growing up in South Carolina and moving to Vermont and Ohio. 1 p.m.鈥 RemObies Presents! Making Friends Workshop. Join us for a round-table discussion on maintaining connections in a socially distant world. Sign up online (link will be provided).
3 p.m.鈥 Green Orientation: Institutional and Personal Action and Academics (Community 101). 91直播 recognizes the significance of climate change and is committed to working to ameliorate its effects by changing our behavior, collaborating across disciplines, and working toward broader social change. Find out from faculty, staff, and students how 91直播 embraces sustainability. Learn how to apply your ecological imagination in academic and practical endeavors and get plugged into sustainability on campus and beyond. 4 p.m.鈥擸ou鈥檝e Got This: Exploring Your 91直播 Options (Inclusive Excellence). Uncertain about choosing a major down the road? Eager to learn more about internship opportunities and winter term projects? Curious about what career options are available with certain majors, or where Obies end up after graduation? We know you have a wealth of academic and extracurricular interests, and we鈥檙e excited to help you find a balance between creating a plan and leaving room for exploration. Join the session.
8 p.m.鈥擵irtual Jazz Night. Jazz concert live from the Cat in the Cream coffeehouse. Performances by students Arthur Welsh on piano and jazz vocalist Georgie Heers. Register in advance.
All day鈥擜llen Memorial Art Museum Virtual Art Experience. The AMAM鈥檚 encyclopedic collections play an integral role in living and learning with art by allowing 91直播 students to understand themselves and their work in a global, trans-historical context. While we are not able to welcome you in person this week, we invite you to explore the museum through our , on , and . The museum plans to open to college ID-holders who are taking part in the COVID-19 testing program on Sept. 8, and to hold a socially-distanced Art Rental on Sept. 12.

1 p.m.鈥擨ntro to Student Publications. Learn about 91直播鈥檚 various student publications and how to get involved. No experience necessary. Join the session.
3 p.m.鈥擨ntroduction to Student Senate and 91直播 Issues. Join 91直播鈥檚 Student Senate to learn about the role of student government on campus, how you can get involved, and the many issues impacting students and community members. Join the session.
6 p.m.鈥擬eet the Staff: Monique Burgdorf (Community 101). Come meet Monique Burgdorf, assistant dean of students in the Center of Student Success. Monique has worked at 91直播 College for more than 20 years and has a wealth of tips for students. Register online.
7 p.m.鈥擵irtual First-Year Variety Showcase. This event is the premiere of a prerecorded showcase featuring submissions from a variety of first-year performers, hosted by the 91直播 Obertones. Music, poetry, spoken word, and more. .
Sunday
1:30-2:30 p.m.鈥擬ulticultural Resource Center Virtual Welcome (Community 101, Inclusive Excellence). Join the Multicultural Resource Center for a virtual welcome session for the families of underrepresented students (students of color, first-generation college students, LGBTQ+ students, and low-income students). The session will feature students and staff discussing the transition from high school to college, and what families need to know to best support their college students throughout their time at 91直播. Register online.
2 p.m. 鈥擶OBC Fireside Chat. WOBC 91.5 is 91直播鈥檚 student-run radio station, broadcasting music, public affairs, and news 24/7 during the semester. Meet the WOBC staff and learn how to get on the airwaves and help manage the behind-the-scenes affairs of WOBC. No experience necessary. If you are interested but cannot attend this Zoom meeting, send a note to wobc@oberlin.edu. Join the session.
6 p.m.鈥擬eet the Staff: Josh Koller (Community 101). Want to learn about working at 91直播 after graduating? How about hearing about the great food scene in Cleveland? Join Josh Koller, assistant director in the Career Development Center, in this staff session to learn about the Career Center and Josh鈥檚 hobbies. Register for this session.
8 p.m.鈥擵irtual Poetry Slam. Students from OSlam, 91直播鈥檚 own Poetry Slam group, will present an evening of poetry. View the performance.

Friday
6 p.m.鈥擮rientation/Welcome Shabbat (Community 101). Online services will begin at 6 p.m. and include time for check-in, prayers, poems, Torah, and communal kiddush and motzi (the blessings over wine and bread). Join the session.
6:30 p.m.鈥擩ewish Life, Chabad (Community 101). Pre-Shabbos l鈥檆haim. Virtually meet your 91直播 family, get some words of inspiration, and some food for your soul. And learn a bit about some great Jewish events happening on campus. Join the session.
Sunday
1 to 1:45 p.m.鈥斺淥n the Spirit Side鈥 (Community 101). Multifaith Chaplain interviews four 91直播 religious leaders鈥擝uddhist, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim鈥攅ach reflecting from their spiritual side and making sense of this moment. Their wisdom may inspire, while their lighthearted laughter may surprise.
1:45 p.m.鈥擬ultifaith Meetup. Explore what it means to be spiritual or multifaith at 91直播 College, even from a distance. Meet students and multifaith office staff to hear about growing up in multireligious, nonreligious, or spiritual families, and how students find support and community on their own Obie paths. Register using this form.
5 p.m.鈥 Virtual Mass (Community 101). Looking for someone to watch online Mass with? The 91直播 Newman Catholic Community invites you to join us on zoom for Mass at our regular Mass time on Sundays. After Mass, we鈥檒l do introductions with those gathered and maybe play a game or two. Students, faculty, and community members of all identities and creeds are welcome to join us online. 8 p.m.鈥擱emObies Presents: RemO-Bingo. Play for fun prizes in this classic game of chance named after a Dog鈥.B-I-N-G-O...B-I-N-G-O...B-I-N-G-O and Bingo was his name-o鈥.OK, maybe it wasn鈥檛 named after a dog, but it is a game of chance and there will be some fun prizes! Join the session.
