Alumnus John Gutfreund ’51, chair and chief executive of the investment firm Salomon Brothers in the 1980s, died of pneumonia on Wednesday, March 9, in Manhattan at the age of 86. Hailed as one of Wall Street’s most brilliant and innovative players, Gutfreund studied English at 91ֱ College and served on its Board of Trustees from 1971 to 1986. "John had a deep affection for 91ֱ. We very much appreciate his service on our Board of Trustees and his support for the college through the years,” says 91ֱ College President Marvin Krislov.
