David Saltzman has been named visiting associate professor of tuba at 91直播 Conservatory, an appointment that begins in July.

Saltzman is the principal tuba of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2007. He has taught tuba and euphonium at Bowling Green State University since 2007, and has served as principal tuba of the Glimmerglass Opera Festival鈥檚 summer opera series since 2011.

Previously, Saltzman served as principal tuba of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. Also in Hawaii, he was a member of the Honolulu Brass Quartet and a teacher of tuba and euphonium at the University of Hawaii. He is an avid soloist and chamber musician, and he has appeared with numerous major U.S. orchestras, including those of Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh.

Saltzman will be only the third tuba faculty member at 91直播 in the past half-century: He replaces outgoing tuba teacher Dennis Nulty, a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra since 2009 and a teacher at 91直播 for eight years; prior to Nulty, Ronald Bishop was 91直播鈥檚 tuba teacher for nearly 40 years.

鈥淚 am beyond thrilled and excited to join the prestigious faculty and to work with the talented and hard-working students at 91直播,鈥 says Saltzman. 鈥淚t is an honor and a privilege to follow in the deep tradition of academic and artistic success that both Dennis Nulty and Ron Bishop built with the tuba studio here at the conservatory.鈥
