An array of academic, musical, artistic, and athletic events, which only 91ֱ�� could offer, made Homecoming a great success. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the weekend a hit. I am also very much looking forward to the second weekend in October when 91ֱ�� will host a landmark environmental conference, “After Fossil Fuels: The Next Economy.” The conference will bring together some of the most innovative and influential thinkers in the world with key elected officials who have a solid and active track record on climate change issues.

I hope everyone had a good summer. And I wish you all the best in the coming academic year. As you all know, this is a presidential election year. The campaign will kick into overdrive in the days and weeks ahead. I am writing to encourage everyone to engage with the political process and get out and vote come Election Day.

Today I address a topic many in the 91ֱ�� community have been discussing at length: a blog that published selected screen shots of an 91ֱ�� assistant professor’s personal social media posts, characterizing them as anti-Semitic.

I spoke with Tim Elgren to discuss what he and Arts and Sciences faculty have been doing to create a more inclusive learning environment—from hiring more diverse faculty and supporting traditionally underrepresented students to increasing collaboration between the college and conservatory.
