In June 1965, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ascended the 91直播 College Commencement stage and delivered the address "Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution." Rev. King was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at that commencement ceremony.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Rev. King鈥檚 visit. To commemorate, the Office of the President and the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will host a multifaith baccalaureate celebration with music, blessings, and reflections to inspire the Class of 2015, alumni, families, and friends.
The celebration will feature the panel discussion 鈥溾 with panelists Johnnetta B. Cole 鈥57, director of the National Museum of African Art; Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children鈥檚 Defense Fund and 2015 Commencement speaker; Alan B. Wachtel 鈥68, founder and director of Familyhealth Associates; and U.S. Senator Harris L. Wofford of Pennsylvania. Associate Professor of Religion A.G. Miller will moderate.
The celebration is from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, in Finney Chapel.
