2016-17 Artist Recital Series Welcomes Tafelmusik, pianist Richard Goode, and More

The 2016-17 Artist Recital Series at 91直播 College & Conservatory will boast a spectacular lineup of diverse sounds throughout the coming year. The historic series' 139th season begins with versatile clarinetist Eddie Daniels, who leads his jazz quartet into Finney Chapel on September 17. The season closes with the annual visit by the Cleveland Orchestra鈥攁n 91直播 tradition since 1919. Ticket information, including subscriptions and Pick 3 packages, will be announced soon.

The complete 2016-17 Artist Recital Series season is as follows:

EDDIE DANIELS, clarinet 8 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016
A genre-versatile clarinetist, Eddie Daniels is known for performances in both the jazz and classical worlds. He will be joined by his longtime jazz companions, bass player Darek Oles, pianist Allan Pasqua, and drummer Joe LaBarbera.
 

ZUKERMAN TRIO 8 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016
Pinchas Zukerman returns鈥攖his time with 91直播 Professor of Piano Angela Cheng and cellist Amanda Forsyth鈥攑erforming Gli猫re's Pieces for Violin and Cello, Op. 39; Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 67; and Schubert's Piano Trio in B-flat Major, D. 898.

ST. LAWRENCE STRING QUARTET 8 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2016
Celebrated for its "smoldering intensity" by The Washington Post, the St. Lawrence Quartet will share a program that spans all eras, featuring Haydn's String Quartet in F Minor, Op. 20, No. 5; Beethoven's String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132; and John Adams' Second Quartet, the third piece to result from an exceptionally fruitful relationship between Adams and his favorite chamber group.

TAFELMUSIK 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017
One of the world鈥檚 top Baroque orchestras, Tafelmusik performs J.S. Bach: The Circle of Creation, a multimedia presentation combining text, music, video, and images to celebrate the genius of Bach鈥攑erformed entirely from memory.

 

RICHARD GOODE, piano 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017
Acknowledged worldwide as a leading interpreter of Classical and Romantic music, Goode will perform an all-Beethoven solo piano recital spanning the composer鈥檚 three style periods: the three early Bonn-period opus 10 sonatas; the somewhat neglected middle opus 54 sonata in F major, composed around the same time as the famous 鈥淲aldstein鈥 and 鈥淎ppassionata鈥 sonatas; and the late opus 101 sonata, which is at turns mystical, sober, and intense.
 

THE CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017
Featuring principal cellist Mark Kosower and principal oboist Frank Rosenwein as soloists, the Cleveland Orchestra continues its nearly century-long partnership with 91直播's Artist Recital Series鈥攔eturning with Delius' Brigg Fair: An English Rhapsody, Vaughan Williams' Concerto for Oboe & String Orchestra, and Strauss' Don Quixote.

MARILYN HORNE Master Classes 8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 2 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017
Heralded as a strong advocate for young singers and a widely sought-after master class technician, the 20th century American mezzo-soprano returns for her 11th annual public master classes, featuring performances by 91直播 Conservatory voice students.
