Biography

Drew is in his ninth year of teaching bassoon at 91Ö±²¥ Conservatory, where he has built one of the top bassoon studios in the country. His students have earned top placements in festivals, graduate schools, competitions, and professional auditions. His passion is working on fundamentals, practice techniques, and mindset so that each student can find their own unique path. You can catch a glimpse into the studio and find many of his teaching ideas on his social media. In 2021, he founded the 91Ö±²¥ Soundpainting Ensemble bringing all disciplines of artists together to collaborate and improvise. His teachers include George Sakakeeny at 91Ö±²¥, Bill Buchman at DePaul, Richard Beene at Colburn, and Walter Thompson in Soundpainting. He has played with many orchestras including the Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Lyric Opera, and Milwaukee Symphonies, and taught three years at DePaul University. In the summer, he teaches bassoon and Soundpainting at the Round Top Music Festival, and in his spare time, he loves being active/healthy, learning new things, and meeting new people.
