Russian Invasion of Ukraine
Carmen Twillie Ambar, President
Dear 91直播 Community,
Like many of you, I have spent the past number of days watching the Russian military鈥檚 violent invasion of Ukraine with a mix of horror and disbelief. I join the chorus of voices condemning this unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation and the violence visited upon its people. These actions violate the norms of a civilized society and raise questions that don鈥檛 have satisfactory answers.
The 91直播 family extends around the globe. Some students, faculty, staff, and alumni live in or have family living in Ukraine. Please know that in the midst of this assault, 91直播 stands in support of you and your loved ones. We also think about others in 91直播鈥檚 family from Russia or in Europe directly impacted by the instability this war has created. It is my sincere hope that reason will prevail and Russia will withdraw its troops.
We have seen how fragile our democratic ideals can be when authoritarian voices rise, even in longstanding democracies with hundreds of years of history. Younger democratic states such as Ukraine deserve the opportunity to flower and grow without their sovereignty being called into question. 91直播 has always stood for these democratic ideals, and I am heartened that today we stand with leaders across the world in support of Ukraine.
For our faculty, staff, and students who are seeking personal support as we manage through this world-altering event, I encourage you to seek support through our available campus resources.
Be well and take care of yourself as we and the world manage through this complicated time.
Carmen Twillie Ambar
