Marcus J. ’27

Hey! My name is Marcus, and I’m a third year here at 91Ö±²¥. I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota - hometown of Prince, rollerblades, and honeycrisp apples! I love reading (especially Amor Towles, Jandy Nelson, and Erin Morgenstern) and perhaps while away too many hours at the 91Ö±²¥ Public Library.

I'm particularly interested in recent media studies and postmodernist music; I enjoy using video games and TV shows as cultural touchpoints for larger theoretical concepts. I've taught Experimental College courses on a variety of subjects including the music of video games, analysis of the hit show Arcane, and queer(ing) music history; this spring, I'm teaching a course on the Clone Wars TV show! I also chair 'Round Midnight, 91Ö±²¥'s all-gender jazz and folk a cappella group and direct the WOBC (radio station) classical music group. Outside of that, I'm a course assistant for music history 101 and major representative for the Gender, Sexuality, & Feminist Studies (GSFS) and Musical Studies departments.

I’m delighted to share some of my stories from 91Ö±²¥ here - stay tuned for (relatively) inconsistent updates!
